Process Analysis / Interface Design
Huron's consulting approach to process analysis is based on standard goals of workflow improvement…. To reduce costs, increase quality of work and timeliness, and to foster positive "downstream" effects. Workflow improvement has the right person doing the right task at the right time with the right information.

Huron's analysis process also highlights interface features that improve workflow, and shows various indicators of healthcare organizational areas ripe for automation and interfacing. Huron knows interfacing systems can be the source of invaluable information for optimizing workflow. Huron's consulting services for interface projects includes a design checklist for tasks to be defined and performed.

Overview
Workflow process mapping and analysis document details of the organization-wide business processes, or specific operational areas within the organization seeking problem solutions. Workflows that cross multiple facilities and departmental lines, especially within growing healthcare systems, are often an inefficient patchwork of steps from previous facility or department-based practices. Workflow process mapping and analysis provide an objective map of these processes and highlights key improvement areas.

Deliverables
Huron will work with an organization's staff to review operational inefficiencies and problem areas, and to develop workable solutions/goals for improved operations.

Often, integral to improving workflow is designing and developing system interfaces. Huron has significant experience in identifying workflow processes that can benefit from interfacing systems, (e.g. producing and working hard copy reports; entering repetitive/duplicate data; working a record too soon or too late; accessing multiple applications to find and move data).

In addition, Huron will work with an organization in specifying the capabilities of an interface required for workflow improvement and cost savings. Such capabilities include: constructing unique information records; filtering messages; translating and expanding field data; queing and releasing information; logging interface and process events, and reporting interface and record status. Huron has found these capabilities assist in the design and development process at both the conceptual (user requirements) and physical (database schema) levels.

Huron works with clients to demonstrate effective user interaction with data received through an interface, and helps examine the administration and maintenance of interfaces.
